Steak Sandwich

Ingredients

  • Thin Sliced Sandwich steak
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • La Bella Romana Baguettes
  • 4-8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/4 cup Italian dressing

Cooking Guide

Caramelize the Onions:

o    Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

o    Add sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown, about 15-20minutes.

o    About halfway through, deglaze the onions with Angelo Caputo Chardonnay

o    Season with salt and pepper to taste.

  1. Cook the Steak:
       
    • Season the steak generously with salt and pepper.
    •  
    • Heat a grill or large skillet over high heat.
    •  
    • Grill or sear the steak for 3-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or to your desired doneness.
    •  
    • Let the steak rest for 5 minutes

  3. Assemble the Sandwiches:
       
    • Cut the rolls or baguettes in half.
    •  
    • Spread the bottom half of each roll with Italian dressing.
    •  
    • Top with sliced steak, caramelized onions, and provolone cheese.
    •  
    • Place the top half of the roll on

  5. Melt the Cheese/Toast  Bread:
       
    • Place assembled sandwich in preheated oven until cheese is melted

Tips & Variations:

  • For extra flavor, marinate the steak in your favorite marinade for at least 30 minutes before grilling.
  • Add some fresh arugula or spinach to the sandwiches for extra greens.
  • Try adding a dollop of horseradish cream, your favorite mayo or aioli, or Dijon mustard to the sandwiches.
  • Use different types of cheese, such as Gruyere or Swiss.
  • Add more toppings like mushrooms, roasted red peppers
